I’m a single mom in my mid-50′s, which is nothing earth-shattering though I became a mom at 50 so perhaps that earns me a few brownie points. I adopted a beautiful girl, now 4, who is the absolute love of my life. While motherhood hasn’t changed my views, it has sharpened them. And needless to say, it also have completely turned my life upside in exhilarating, exasperating, and ultimately rewarding ways.
I am also a professor in social work — teaching and researching such topics as organizational change, community capacity building, diversity, social movements, and civil society. I think words such as “feminist,” “public,” “union” and “progressive” are good, even great. When I was younger and had much more energy, I engaged in feminist, labor, anti-racism and community organizing (now I write about it).
In my spare time (which is laughable), I try to garden in a 10×8 plot, read more trashy stuff than I ought, and cook. But mostly I hang-out with my terrific neighbors and watch my daughter and her friends engage with each other and discover the world.
Always nice to hear more from & about folks I care about but seldom see anymore. Blogs provide a wee bit more context than fb, mais oui? Pat
Actually, I’m surprised you aren’t blogging from the Northwest Kingdom!
Ha! I thought you were an English professor!! This makes more sense!
That’s a good one! I don’t think anyone has ever confused me for an English professor. I don’t even own any tweed!
